Microsoft DirectX 11 (DX11) is a technology group designed to make Windows-based computers a great platform to use and display rich multimedia applications such as full color, video, 3D animation, and rich audio. The tool includes security and performance updates, as well as many new features across the technology, which can be accessed by applications using DirectX APIs.


Microsoft DirectX® End-User Runtime provides 11 updates and earlier versions of Direct X - Windows®-based technology that drives high-speed multimedia and games on PC.


Direct3D 11 is out and ready to be used by your game today to take advantage of the latest video hardware features and equipment of the current generation. This talk gives you a quick overview of the API, gives you tips on how to get started with your application, provides an overview of all the important features, and shows you how to use your app. Attending this talk is highly recommended when you visit other in-app presentations.


Note that DirectX Runtime (Direct3D, DirectInput, DirectSound) is not part of this package as it is installed as part of the Windows operating system, so it cannot be installed or uninstalled. Runtime updates are available by installing the latest Service Pack or getting the latest version of Windows PC.


Microsoft DirectX 11 is installed on Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2. There is no standalone update package for this version. You can update DirectX by installing a service pack and update below. To upgrade DirectX continuously, you will need to upgrade your app.


This app is installed on Windows 8, Windows RT, and Windows Server 2012. There is no stand alone software update. You can only install this DirectX version with Windows Update on Windows 8, Windows RT, and Windows Server 2012.


The tool is installed on Windows 8.1, Windows RT 8.1, and Windows Server 2012 R2. There is no standalone update package for the app. You can only install this DirectX version with Windows Update on Windows 8.1, Windows RT 8.1, and Windows Server 2012 R2.


DirectX 11 and DirectX 12 are included with these versions of Windows. Updates will be available via Windows Update. There is no stand-alone package for these DirectX versions.


Microsoft DirectX 11 is licensed as a Freeware for Windows PC (32-bit and 64-bit) operating system / platform from unlimited components. DirectX11 is available to all software users as a free download!
